I got tired of staring at outlines
A textbook chapter flattens everything into a numbered list, and the structure – what depends on what, what feeds into what – disappears. You can read the whole chapter and still not know how the pieces connect. That's not a comprehension failure; it's a format failure.
So I built the thing I wanted
Brain started as a side project for exactly one user: me. Drop in a PDF, get a 3D starfield back. Topics are nodes. Relationships are lines. You rotate the map, zoom into a cluster, and immediately see which concepts are foundations and which are leaves.
The color part came later, and it changed everything. Red means “not yet.” Green means “got it.” As you quiz yourself, stars change color in place – the map becomes a progress bar in space. Watching a section you've been avoiding turn from red to green is a feeling I want every student to have.
The rules it runs by
Your files never leave your device. Everything is processed locally and stored in your browser. No cloud copy, no account database, no analytics. That was non-negotiable from day one.
The tool serves the teacher, not the other way around. Great material still comes from humans – teachers, professors, you. Brain just turns it into structure, quizzes and visible mastery fast.
